AYNAY/HABIBI
a video and sound installation – NATIONAL PREMIERE
by Frédérique Chauveaux (Francia)
from 31st August to 6th September from 18:00 to 23:00
Ex Conservatorio S. Anna – Lecce
Following Ayni/habibi (2022), which explored marriage in Lebanon through women’s voices, the artist extended the project in 2024 to include the male perspective. Despite their patriarchal privilege, men also experience doubts, contradictions, and emotional complexity. The new installation, created in Beirut, stands as an independent work combining video, sound, and dance.
At its center is an XXL wedding dress used as a projection screen, giving the piece a ghostly, holographic quality. The work poetically reveals the inner tensions and compromises of both women and men within the institution of marriage. It reflects on societal constraints and the construction of identity.
Blending real and virtual spaces, the installation invites viewers to question what they see and reconsider the boundary between reality and representation.
