The performance is inspired by the text “Euridice cannot return. A choreographic poem of forgetfulness” by Marcello Sambati. This work of dance and poetry revisits one of the oldest and most enduring myths of the underworld and love, deeply rooted in Greek and Etruscan art, and depicted in ceramics, paintings, bas-reliefs, and sculptures. The mythological figure of Eurydice enchants us, holds us suspended, binds us to the age-old voice that tells of a woman no longer reachable—a supreme being whose presence and sight are lost in the darkness of all places and times, both real and imaginary. She holds us at the threshold, at the finest, most subtle perception of that one irreducible and definitive step… in a state of daze that only the physical experience of limits—or the aching for a sensation—can stir in the human soul. Through the raw and intimate language of great legends, we return to the living roots of our primal needs and mysteries. Poetry, with its verses, becomes the only weapon capable of taming such sharp material—of gently approaching human and divine fragilities.
