Inspired by the voice of Gianni Pampanini
Three audio cassettes, recorded in the mid-1980s and rediscovered twenty years later, become the
foundation of the theatrical work GIANNI, created by Caroline Baglioni and Michelangelo Bellani.
The piece is a faithful transcription of a sonic testament left by Gianni Pampanini, Caroline’s uncle.
On these tapes, Gianni — a man with manic-depressive disorder who passed away in 2001 —
describes himself, his anxieties, desires, and his intimate and troubled relationship with society.
Years later, his voice becomes the heart of a theatrical work that continues to tour across Italy,
resonating deeply with audiences and touching their sensibilities.
