MY IDEA OF ART

book presentation by Pope Francis

with Mons. Vito Angiuli, Alessandro Valenti and Antonio Scialpi

2nd September at 19:00
Atrio ex Seminario Vescovile Piazza Duomo – Lecce

In his first book dedicated to art, Pope Francesco clearly expresses the spiritual, social, and cultural
value of art. He describes it as a powerful tool for evangelization and dialogue, capable of
conveying the beauty of creation and standing against the “culture of waste.” He praises examples
such as Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel and contemporary artist Alejandro Marmo, who works
with recycled materials and marginalized communities.
According to the Pope, museums must open themselves to the world, becoming vibrant spaces
accessible to all—places that unite cultures and religions, rather than serving as exclusive venues
for the elite. Art, he says, is part of God’s great work of mercy, where nothing is ever lost.

With Vito Angiuli, the Bishop of Santa Maria di Leuca, Alessandro Valenti, film director and screenwriter Antonio Scialpi, professor of philosophy
