The docu-film traces Bene’s life and career, providing a fascinating portrait of one of the most influential artists on the Italian theatre scene. The film recounts the most significant stages of Bene’s entire existence, played for the occasion by Filippo Timi and the testimonies of Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, Lydia Mancinelli, Stefano Cristante, Simone Giorgino, Marcello Panni, Franco Ungaro and Salomè Bene.

Carmelo Bene’s ‘L mal dè fiori, written between 1999 and 2000 two years before his death, is the last act of his uninterrupted research into sound and the poetic voice. The title of Bene’s poem is a reversal of Charles Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil. Carmelo Bene’s encounter with poetry was not accidental; he wrote poetry since his adolescence and ended his life with ‘L Mal dè fiori, after performing “poetry concerts”, saying and singing the poems of Majakovski, Dino Campana, Leopardi and Dante Alighieri.
